What happens during the session?
During the session, sensors are placed on the client's head and ears. The client listens to relaxing music created for the system or watches a movie. No active effort or conscious participation is required. As the NeurOptimal® system detects irregularities in the electrical activity in the brain, it provides immediate feedback through brief pauses in the music or visuals. These interruptions prompt the brain to self-correct and reorganise its activity. This feedback loop continues throughout the session, encouraging the brain to become more resilient, flexible, and efficient over time. The process is gentle and allows the brain to naturally optimise its own functioning.
Is neurofeedback safe?
Neurofeedback is safe and non-invasive with a strong track record of effectiveness. See section on further reading for more information.
How long does a session last?
The first neurofeedback session will last approximately 1 hour. The following sessions last approximately 50 minutes.
Can I resume normal activities immediately?
After the sensors are removed, the client can resume normal activities immediately, often feeling relaxed or refreshed.
How many sessions are needed and how often?
The number of sessions varies depending on the individual. Changes often start to be observed within 3-5 sessions. Lasting changes may require 10-20 sessions. More chronic conditions can take longer. At least one session is recommended per week. During your consultation, we will develop a personal treatment plan to suit your needs.
Considerations regarding medication
Neurofeedback is generally considered safe to be used alongside medication. However, the interaction with medication can vary depending on the individual and the type of medication being used. It is advisable for all clients to inform their healthcare providers before they participate in neurofeedback.
Is NeurOptimal® safe for children?
Neurofeedback is suitable for people of any age.
